The Telkom University Industrial Engineering Lecturer Team has successfully completed community service activities in Tangsijaya Village with the title Monitoring System Based on IoT Power Plant Microhydro Tangsijaya, Gunung Halu Village. The activity was led by Dr. Eng. Muhammad Almaududi P., ST, M.Eng.
Gunung Halu Village has electricity supply from PLN, but there are certain hamlets, including Tangsijaya Hamlet, which have not been electrified due to hilly topography and its location adjacent to the forest. In 2007, a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) was built in Mount Halu to meet the electricity needs in the area. The water debit in Mount Halu is stable, and data from the West Java Province Water Resources Office shows this.
The problem encountered is the absence of a monitoring system in micro hydro power plants. This monitoring system is important to present information about the state of PLTMH, such as water discharge, power, and electricity production in real-time. However, the installation of conventional monitoring systems requires high costs, so that the PLTMH is currently still relying on manual recording by officers whose results have a low level of accuracy.
To overcome this problem, the Telkom University team used IoT (Internet of Things) technology to create a PLTMH remote monitoring system. By utilizing this technology, operators in the village or related parties can carry out real-time monitaoring while connected to the internet network. This IoT technology has opened new opportunities to monitor and optimize the performance of PLTMH more efficiently.
The implementation of community service shows how technology can be used to help develop various fields, both in terms of improving individual skills and in the development of infrastructure and the efficient use of natural resources. Hopefully, the positive steps of the Telkom University team can inspire more people to contribute to community development and sustainable use of technology.
