Data collection of residents is an activity that must be carried out to find out the condition of the community in an area. This data collection is usually obtained through regular population census activities. The main objectives of the population census are carried out, among others, to determine the number and development of the population in a certain period of time, know the distribution and density of population in various regions, as well as knowing other demographic conditions, such as birth rates, death, composition, and migration.

During this time, data collection conducted in RW 17 Lengkong Village, Bojongsoang District, Bandung Regency was carried out by visiting residents from house to house to collect data through manual recording, interviews, and collecting copies of family cards and identification cards. There are many obstacles encountered in the process of population data collection manually such as the limited time of officers in conducting data collection, high levels of population migration, the risk of loss of documents, difficulty in updating the condition of the population, the difficulty of finding the recapitulation of data needed, and human error in the process of data collection, recording, and reporting. Therefore, a team of lecturers from the Telkom University Industrial Engineering Study Program chaired by Nurdininya Athari Supratman, S.Si., MT designed a population data collection application that can be used for recording and reporting population more effectively and efficiently. This activity is part of the Community Service activity funded by Telkom University period II of 2019.

Community service activities are carried out in several stages, ranging from identifying the needs of the system and data, application design, to application demonstrations to RW management and population data collection managers. This population data collection application received a positive response from the RW 17 Lengkong Village Management. Chairman of RW 17, Avan Fajri, said that "this application is very useful and will be implemented in the RW 17 environment so that it needs to be socialized to all RT management as the owner and inputting data".
