The learning process in the classroom or outside the classroom has an important role in the success of education. One of the learning activities outside the classroom is to participate in a workshop or training activity that aims to provide insight in the form of new knowledge that is not obtained in the classroom. This shows that learning activities outside the classroom are needed for students who have a high curiosity about science without any limits a place to study.
At this time information technology has been highly developed, one of which is a geographic information system or Geographic Information System (GIS). GIS -based applications can be used as visualization that facilitates decision making. GIS training is one of the training that is in demand by students at this time.
To meet the needs of students to explore extensive knowledge, especially in the field of GIS, the community service program this time involved the Laboratory of Communication Facilities Planning held training in the form of a Maximize Your Life with GIS workshop held for SMK Telkom Bandung. This year, the theme carried is Education with Integrated System of Life . This activity was attended by Industrial Engineering students in 2017,2018,2019 with twenty -six (26) people and students of SMK Telkom Bandung totaling sixteen (16) people. Therefore, the total number of participants in the training amounted to forty -two (42) people. This workshop training is expected to add insight and skills in the field of geography for students of SMK Telkom Bandung and Students/I.
the workshop was divided into two different sessions with the same theme. In the first session the Arcgis Deskstop training was conducted and in the second session the ArcGIS online training was held. In this session the speaker conveyed the introduction of the understanding of the Geographic Information System (GIS), after that the presentation and introduction of ArcGIS and applications on the GIS desktop. The training activities in the first session training are participants can recognize and understand the basic science of GIS and their benefits in life, participants can understand and use the basic GIS Arcmap desktop application. In the second session, the speaker delivered spatial data processing material and attributes, participants are expected to be able to recognize and be able to process the spatial data and data attributes of an area into 2D or maps using the ArcGis Desktop platform, ARCMAP and participants can make thematic maps.
workshop activity received feedback from students of Telkom Bandung Vocational School and Telkom University Industrial Engineering Students in total there were 98% of agreement and strongly agreed to the whole activity both from the objectives, needs, time, and implementation of activities.
