Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)

In its implementation, the concept of analytical hierarchy process or AHP concept can run well with 3 main principles that support it.

It also has 6 procedures that can be passed to get the best results. 

Understanding AHP 

AHP itself is a decision support model that was originally developed by Thomas L. Sahand, a mathematics professor from the University of Pittsburgh. 

This concept describes problems with multi -factors or multi -criteria that are complex into a hierarchy. 

According to Saidy, this hierarchy can be defined as a representation of a complex problem in a multi-level structure. 

Where the first level is the goal which is then followed by the level of factor, criteria, sub criteria, and so on down to the last level of the alternative. 

A complex problem can be described into its groups with the help of the hierarchy. Thus the problem will look more structured and systematic so that it is easier to solve. 

So in essence AHP helps solve complex problems by creating a hierarchy of criteria, is considered subjectively by the interested parties and then draws various considerations to develop the weight or priority (conclusion). 

Higratory structure 

The first reason is the hierarchical structure, namely as a consequence of the selected criteria, to the deepest sub criteria. 

Take into account the validity. 

This concept also takes into account the validity to the inconsistency tolerance limit of various criteria and alternatives chosen by the decision maker. 

Take into account the output endurance 

Another important reason for the use of this concept also lies in its ability to calculate the output resistance of the decision making sensitivity. 

The use of analytical hierarchy process is not only in government or private institutions but can also be used for individual needs. 

Especially in studies that are related to policies or formulating priority strategies. 

This concept can be relied upon because in AHP a priority is compiled from various choices in the form of criteria that have been previously decomposed. Thus priority determination will take place based on a structured and reasonable process. 

So it can be said that complex problems will be solved with the help of AHP by compiling a hierarchy of criteria. 

Where it is considered subjectively by the interested parties to get various considerations that can develop priorities. 

AHP Procedure

This AHP procedure is one of the things learned at Telkom University which teaches the latest technology. Because in solving problems in AHP, there are three main principles as follows:

1. Decomposition 

The problem of decomposition is a procedure in which a goal or goal set previously is described systematically. 

So that it becomes a structure that compiles a series of systems so that goals can be achieved rationally. In short, a complete goal, then decomposed (broken) into the constituent elements. 

2. Assessment or weighting 

After the decomposition process is complete, the next step is the assessment or weighting to compare elements. 

3. Preparation of the matrix and consistency test 

After the weighting is completed, it is followed by the preparation of the paired matrix so that it can be normalized the level of importance of each element in their respective hierarchies. 

In addition to manual analysis, you can also use computer programs such as Expert Choice. 

4. Determination of priorities 

Each criterion and alternatives need to be compared to pairing in order to get an alternative rating from all alternatives. 

Either in the form of qualitative alternatives or quantitative criteria, can be compared in accordance with the specified assessment. 

So as to get weights and priorities that can be calculated by manipulation of the matrix or through the completion of mathematical equations. 

5. Synthesis of Priority 

This stage is obtained from the results of the multiplication of local priorities with the priority of the criteria concerned at the top level. 

Where then added to each element in a level that is influenced by criteria that produce a combination called global priority. 

6. Taking/determination of decisions 

The last procedure in decision making which is the process of choosing among alternatives to get the best criteria. 

6 Procedures in the AHP concept can be done in order in order to get results as expected.
